About
I'm Deanna!
I paint in watercolor, inspired by fish, wild places, and the stories that come home with us from being outside. A fish isn't always just a fish. Sometimes it's the place you grew up fishing, a trip you'll never forget, the one that got away, or a morning on the water that you wish you could bottle up and keep.
That's what I want my paintings to hold onto.
I fell in love with watercolor because of the way it lets the subject breathe. The transparency of the paint, the texture of the paper, the little imperfections... Together, they create something that feels collected rather than manufactured.
My work is rooted in the natural world, but it's really about memory.
Some paintings begin with a fish I can't stop thinking about. Others begin with a place, a photograph, or a moment that deserves to be remembered. I'm especially drawn to the character of saltwater species and the landscapes surrounding them, from quiet marshes and coastal flats to the people and traditions that make those places special.
I create each original painting by hand, then turn select pieces into fine art prints so the work can find its way into more homes, cabins, boats, and spaces filled with stories of their own.
And when I'm not painting, I'm usually somewhere outside with my family, collecting ideas for what I'll paint next.
Thanks for being here and for supporting an artist who still gets excited about a blank piece of watercolor paper.
